Twist torso side to side

How to Perform Russian Twist

  1. 1Sit on the floor with your knees bent and feet flat on the ground, leaning back slightly so your torso is at a 45-degree angle to the floor.
  2. 2Extend your arms straight out in front of you, clasping your hands together or holding a weight if desired, with your chest lifted and core engaged.
  3. 3Lift your feet a few inches off the ground, balancing on your sit bones to create a V-shape with your torso and thighs (modify by keeping feet down if needed).
  4. 4Inhale to prepare, then exhale as you rotate your torso to the right, bringing your hands or weight toward the floor beside your hip.
  5. 5Inhale to return to center, keeping your core tight and movement controlled.
  6. 6Exhale as you rotate your torso to the left, bringing your hands or weight toward the floor beside your opposite hip.
  7. 7Continue alternating sides for desired reps, maintaining steady breathing (exhale on each twist).
  8. 8Key form tips: Keep your hips stable and avoid rocking—rotate from your core, not your arms. Maintain a neutral spine (no rounding or arching). Common mistakes: Using momentum instead of control, letting feet touch down, or hunching shoulders.
