Twist torso side to side
How to Perform Russian Twist
- 1Sit on the floor with your knees bent and feet flat on the ground, leaning back slightly so your torso is at a 45-degree angle to the floor.
- 2Extend your arms straight out in front of you, clasping your hands together or holding a weight if desired, with your chest lifted and core engaged.
- 3Lift your feet a few inches off the ground, balancing on your sit bones to create a V-shape with your torso and thighs (modify by keeping feet down if needed).
- 4Inhale to prepare, then exhale as you rotate your torso to the right, bringing your hands or weight toward the floor beside your hip.
- 5Inhale to return to center, keeping your core tight and movement controlled.
- 6Exhale as you rotate your torso to the left, bringing your hands or weight toward the floor beside your opposite hip.
- 7Continue alternating sides for desired reps, maintaining steady breathing (exhale on each twist).
- 8Key form tips: Keep your hips stable and avoid rocking—rotate from your core, not your arms. Maintain a neutral spine (no rounding or arching). Common mistakes: Using momentum instead of control, letting feet touch down, or hunching shoulders.
